Comment:

Even before he joined indie supergroup Broken Social Scene in the early '00s, Toronto's Jason Collett had been round the block a few times. A hometown circuit fixture, he made a name for himself with the Andrew Cash band and Ursula before putting his career on hiatus. A return to music with alt country outfit Bird (featuring Cash and Hawksley Workman) paved the way for full-blown debut [i]Bitter Beauty[/i] (2001), since when he's blossomed — via 2005's outstanding [i]Idols of Exile[/i] — into a singer-songwriter of depth and sincerity. He borrowed the title of 2008's [i]Here's to Being Here[/i] from jazz-poet Paul Haines (late father of Metric/Broken Social Scene's Emily Haines).
