Comment:

In a lot of ways, making this comp was a no-brainer--take the three studio albums by one of my eight or so favorite bands/artists of all-time and fit the most songs that can be fit on an 80-minute disc--which is why I hadn't bothered to do it before. But I just couldn't help feeling a nagging tug at the pit of my stomach everytime I noticed that these guys were not included in my collection of single-artist mixes... so here's the result. Space limitations were a serious problem; in fact, if either "Rich Bitch" or "Raw Power" could have fit on this mix without me cutting another key track, "Ann" would *not* be represented here. And to me, unlike their rivals the MC5, it is absolutely impossible to overrate the Stooges--they are truly one of the most absolutely streamlined rock bands of all-time and are the most direct fathers of that bastard boy called "punk" that I can think of. To top it off, they never released a bad song, with the possible exception of the overlong and self-consciously arty "We Will Fall".

I guess you could say that... I did the Ramones mix yesterday, though, and had the other two mixes set up prior to today. :-)

I remember the first time I heard "We Will Fall" and thought this band is not my cup of tea. Since then, I haven't listened to the Stooges much. I suppose I should give the band another try. I was wondering, therefore, if you could send me a copy (your Mitch Easter disk will be in the mail this week--let me know if you haven't gotten the Chameleons and Moose disks). BTW: I've been listening to your 2 disk Mekons compilation constantly. It's great.

Very nice Rob! All that's missing is a nude shot of Iggy for the cover. I guess I'll have to click on the Mix of the Week if I want to check out naked guys.

The Stooges are one of those things I marginally know...I understand the significance and the greatness, and then when it comes down to actually lay down the cash for a stooges record i either forget or find something i think i want more. please forgive this foolish sinner.
