Comment:

College rock might have been located at the left end of the dial, but stylistically it was all over the map. Being that there just wasn’t room enough to contain all its golden-era goodness in a single playlist, we’re serving up a second heaping helping. Care for a little irony with your metal? In “We Care a Lot,” Faith No More mocks rockers and their causes, from killer bees to global disease, with an acid-tongued shout-out in a chorus that drips contemptathy. Tom Waits struts his shabby-overcoat, neo-Beat hipster persona through the booze, bleach, and Bukowski whisper of “Jockey Full of Bourbon,” featured in the Jim Jarmusch cult film Down By Law. And after years of playing bars, weddings, and quinceañeras in East L.A., Los Lobos breaks out of the barrio with a border-straddling blend of roots and raices in “Will The Wolf Survive?” from their debut album. From high-cred alt-rockers, like Sinéad O’Connor and Bob Mould, to the offbeat and flat-out weird, like the Dead Milkmen and Mojo Nixon, we've got all the key tracks from every corner of campus.
