For a couple of years during the late '70s/early '80s, the Specials — book-ended by incarnations as the Special A.K.A — stood proud and righteous at the cutting edge of the charts: the band marked a high-point in dynamic, politically sharp, punk-fuelled ska-revivalism, bristling with rude-boy style and, when required, menace. It's a shame that their crowning moment, "Ghost Town" — released in riot-torn 1981 as a reaction to the policies of Margaret Thatcher — was also their swan song.
