Similar Sounds - World of Michael Jackson
Comment:
There was a time when it seemed like everyone, from sister Janet to Quincy Jones protégé Tevin Campbell, tried like crazy to capture a little bit of that Michael magic. Like the Jacksons, legendary songwriter/producers Holland-Dozier-Holland were Motown escapees, and the bubblegum-soul trio Honey Cone, the first act on their Hot Wax label, struck gold — literally — with "Want Ads." The Osmonds, a squeaky-clean (and white) mirror image of the young Jacksons, turned blue-eyed soul into a family affair with a song originally written with the Jacksons in mind, "One Bad Apple," complete with a 13-year-old Donny to front the band. And Prince, Michael's major rival for the post-disco crossover crown, works his sexy-smooth magic into a synth-slathered "Billie Jean"-like groove on "I Feel for You." As you'll discover with the rest of our Similar Sounds, you don't have to be a member of the Jackson family to be counted among their kin.
