The Pearlfishers — a revolving lineup centred around permanent member David Scott — have achieved the seemingly impossible, especially given that they work not out of L.A. or Abbey Road, but East Kilbride Arts Centre. Namely, a combination of old-school songwriting craft and production flair that has drawn highly favourable comparison to Burt Bacharach, the Beatles, and the Beach Boys . . . sometimes all in the same song. Think we're exaggerating? Cue up the title track from 2007's [i]Up With the Larks[/i]. The Pearlfishers salute Brian Wilson's girl group, the Honeys, in Next Steps.
