There’s a reason why it’s called the Golden Age of Hip-Hop: with so many stunning cuts bustin’ loose out of one era, we just couldn’t stop at a single playlist. Here’s another dose of the good stuff, like the breathless braggadocio of Special Ed — “Every other month I get a brand new car/I got 20, that’s plenty/But I still want more” — bouncing along the boom and crash of a head-nodding beat on “I Got It Made.” Over the fat-bottom beat and chiming organ of “Ya Mama,” ahead-of-the-curve L.A. crew the Pharcyde drops a devastating dose of the dozens: “Ya mama's glasses are so thick/She look into a map?and see people wavin’ at her.” And then there’s Salt-N-Pepa, who pack their Spandex bike shorts with lyrical libido, hammering kick drums, and the [i]rat-tat-tat[/i] of impatient high-hats on the booty-shaking “Push It (Remix).” Is it electro? Is it high energy? Who cares? It’s [i]attitude[/i]. And just like Nice & Smooth, we’ve got more and more hits . . .
