Comment:
If you really wanna know where the D-O-double-G came from, and how he's stayed on top for nearly two decades, you gotta drop the needle on these tracks from his vintage vinyl stash, handpicked by Snoop himself. That includes — believe it or not — the outlaw country of Willie Nelson, a partner-in-rhyme whose "On the Road Again" careens from the dust-caked countryside to the C&W-fortified hip-hop of Snoop's "My Medicine." On another connect-the-dots tip, the blinding "Flashlight" beams of Parliament's Mothership have funked-up Snoop's gangsta stroll since the days of The Chronic. And then there's the Dramatics, who have their feet planted firmly on Soul Street —or, better yet, a spotlit stage in 1977 Detroit, the harmonies of their coco-butter ballad "Be My Girl" cascading over the crowd . . . and, years later, young Snoop, who breathed life back into the group's career with "Doggy Dogg World." But Calvin’s crate runs a lot deeper than just a few albums — from Chuck Berry to Johnny Cash, we've got the musical makings of Snoop right here.
