Lizz Wright
Comment:
Imagine a glowing Georgia twilight, with cool breezes that stir the sultry summer air with the scent of sun-warmed peaches. Now imagine that scene is a voice, and you get some idea of vocalist Lizz Wright's heady elemental power — it rumbles up through the Georgia-born chanteuse's cover of Carole King's "I Feel the Earth Move," and infuses Neil Young's "Old Man" with a potent shot of the Mississippi Delta. Not that Wright is all raw talent and instinct; church-bred and college-trained, she's a serious student of the musical life, one who can draw from her heritage to give gospel flavor to her original tune "Salt," then turn around and match instruments with jazz giants like sax king David Sanborn on a super-smooth "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight." A new-school singer, a 21st-century star — Lizz Wright is both, and we're please to bring you her very best.
