Formed in 1973, as Tiger Lily, then Ultravox! until the exclamation point was dropped in '78, Ultravox went through several stylistic mutations before emerging as a new wave/new romantic powerhouse with [i]Vienna[/i] in 1980, under the so-called "classic" lineup of Midge Ure, Warren Cann, Chris Cross, and Billy Currie. The title track, with its cinematic video, which nods to the 1948 film [i]The Third Man[/i], and heart-stopping change of pace, set an electro-pop benchmark.
