Hey there mistah n' missy electronica. Put down the glow sticks and listen up. I am going to take you to a place where space and time meet, a spot where the moon and stars achieve cosmic orgasm. Put that cash away pipsqueak, I am not dealing the X. I am here to talk about the band Gong. Anybody who says nothing good ever came from a bunch of hippies taking drugs and making music hasn't heard Gong. Of course the long hair and marijuana alone don't give this band their long-term credibility. Led by led by former Soft Machine guitarist Daevid Allen and his wife Gilli Smyth along with other like minded trippers like guitarist Steve Hillage created spacey music for the lighthearted and lightheaded. In the early '70s, Gong laid the groundwork for the ensuing electronic revolution with their gritty, psychedelic brand of ambient space rock. Coinciding with Krauts Neu! and Can in a free-jazz approach to improvisation, Gong took musical journeys to places self-serious prog-rockers couldn't even fathom. The mix covers only the original Daevid Allen era.

Wow! Greenie era Fleetwood Mac and now Pothead Pixie era Gong. Excellent.I'd been thinking of doing a post-Radio Gnome Invisible but pre-Pierre Moerlen's Gong mix too (much as I like this Daevid Allen stuff).Actually what I'd really like (of topic a bit here) is someone to do an Allan Holdsworth mix - but (after a quick search) as there isn't a single track by him up on this site, maybe that'll never be.

Muzag, I shall venture off topic as well and say in light of the recent prog indulgence of Sean and Rob, I have felt the inpiration to sample the recordings in the CASETTA music vault of that era. Since I failed to follow proper punk procedure years back and purge the prog, it shall be interesting. No UK records in this collection but maybe I'll sample the later Gong just for kicks. I need to get into the proper mindset before I attempt the "flashback" mix. Bring on the dancing dwarves.
So..., here you are, reading through the comments trying to get a "handle" on what this is about. Maybe you're trading with CASSETTA..., and your checking your list-twice-to see if you should choose this. WORD to the WISE: There is no *legal* way to prepare yourself for this..., and the opening track, at 1:10 doesn't begin to hint at the aural adventures awaiting you...this is "transport" music in every sense of the definition. I'd also advise NOT operating heavy machinery during or shortly after this......, a bewildering sonic treat! "High"ly recommend..!
