The now deceased Grandaddy (1992-2006) was one of America's truly great cult indie bands, revered for an innovative mix of rock and electronic songsmithery, and spoken of in the same breath as the Flaming Lips and Radiohead. "A.M. 180", its buzz-noise overlaid with a noodling retro-keyboard line, set out the stall on 1997 debut [i]Under the Western Freeway[/i], a prelude to the brilliance of follow-up [i]The Sophtware Slump[/i] (2000).
