Comment:

For the ambitiously (and pleasingly) idiosyncratic Corleona. She asked for "some Hank Williams", so I included what is perhaps my favorite Hank tune. (And sssh, she may even get a surprise bonus disc with this one to make up for my "one-song-per-mix-per-artist" rule... but don't tell her I told you. heh) Extra points go to the music geek who answers these minor-league trivia questions: 1) Who is "Lyme"? and 2) Which song here was recorded by two of these artists on their respective debut LPs? Thanks to CASETTA for the Brother JT track--if you haven't heard JT's "Rainy Day Fun" album, I strongly suggest that you check it out. Title from the Scott Walker tune (which benefits immeasurably from the way he spits out that particular line).

Warren Zevon is Lyme and "Jesus is a Mighty Good Leader" is the song if I have my discography's in order here.

You are correct about Warren (and if you ask me, that's the best vocal he's ever done), but I don't think the second answer is correct, Tom. I'm pretty sure that "One Foot in the Grave" isn't Beck's first album (although I admit that I don't know if it was *recorded* prior to "Mellow Gold") and even so, I'm not sure that I'd count Skip's 1930 recordings as a "debut album". That's interesting, though, because I hadn't even thought about those two versions of "Leader".

That was just a guess by taking a quick scan. I would have to examine and rack my brain awhile to get the second question which is probably obvious but my monkey brain isn't on full right now

From Mummies to T.Rex, via Hank Williams - an illustrated history of rock. I might lose the CSN track, myself, since I"m no big fan. But hey, you can't win them all, eh?

hey, I would've commented on this even if it wasn't for me :) -- the slits, skip james, t. rex . . . and a whole bunch of other very exciting stuff -- yep, I'm definitely happy . . .

Damn fine work, son. I've tried wedging that Scott track onto so many mixes over the years. Anything I'd follow it up with just seemed tame.

I gotta concur with lo-fi on the Wlaker tune. You made it work. Glad you enjoyed the works of Mr. Terlesky.

Excellent mix as usual Rob. You got me on the debut question. If you offered a wonderful prize for the answer, I'd put my crack research team to work.

So are you going to tell us the answer or do you choose to keep your AOTM devotees in suspense?

Oh, I thought someone else would get it... the answer is "Adventures Close to Home", which is performed on "The Raincoats" and "Cut". The bands shared a drummer, Palmolive, at one point prior to the Slits recording their version. Thanks, all, for the comments.

Wow, Rob, this looks fantastic. And the reason why I didn't comment on this last week was because I was in the air, on my way to Boston, via Singapore, Hong Kong (2 nites), Los Angeles, Chicago (1 nite), South Bend, IN (2 nites), and Detroit - all in 5 days!
