Comment:

Eccentric Norwegian electronic duo Royksopp — which translates literally as "smoke mushroom" — has evolved smartly over the course of their first two albums. With their million-selling debut Melody A.M. (2001), Tromsø's Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge delivered a fluid, lounge-ethereal masterpiece highlighted by the cast-adrift classic "Sparks", deadpan travelator toe-tapper "Remind Me", and "So Easy", which is too elastic for dub, too mellow for funk, and too astral for both, but sits in a uniquely chilled middle ground between them all. Then, with 2005's follow-up, The Understanding, the pair experimented with more traditional songwriting structures, conjuring the Euro-euphoric "What Else Is There?", featuring Karin Dreijer Andersson from the Knife on vocals, in the process. Norway? Yes way.
