Comment:

I made this mix in 1996 for my friend, the noted artist John Wood, who wanted a tape of new music. I didn't quite carry through on that order, though his wife Laurie Snyder said that they listened to the mix quite frequently. I was quite honored to hear this--though I broke the rule of doubling up on the same artist on the first side...essentially Elvis Costello's "My Aim is True" was not recorded with the Attractions, so maybe that gives me a little leeway.

great stuff here and if this were my mix, the better more costello the merrier. portishead and throwing muses are definitely overlooked on a lot of mixes that would do well to include them. nice.

Okay, as you can see I'm checking out all your mixes, and they're all pretty wonderful. Ace Throwing Muses pick on this one

Thanks for the compliments! I think that Throwing Muses really benefitted from both Kristin Hersh and Tanya Donnelly--you kind of needed the contrast.

Yes, I agree. Tanya alway had a couple knockout songs on each Muses record until she left the band. I gave the newest Throwing Muses a cursory listen the other day, and wasn't that impressed -- although a couple songs were excellent.
