Distinguished in their early days by blankets of furious guitars and the heartbroken gruffness and dark northern humour of frontman David Gedge (was there ever a more blunt and aptly direct surname than "Gedge"?), the Wedding Present emerged from Leeds in the mid-'80s as fierce indie mavericks, and debuted with the 23-track-strong [i]George Best[/i] in 1987, before scoring with the blistering singles "Kennedy" and "Brassneck". No one does covers quite like the Weddoes, as you'll discover in Next Steps.
