Panic At The Disco
Comment:
They've styled themselves as a whimsical, cod-Victorian version of the Monkees, and generated enough imagination and ambition over their two albums so far to put most contemporaries to shame . . . Nevadan foursome Panic at the Disco — the first band signed to Pete Wentz's Fueled by Ramen label, before they'd even played their first gig — amount to much more than any convenient emo-pop tag might suggest. Fond of the occasional literary reference — "The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide Is Press Coverage" is borrowed from Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk — Panic matured into second album Pretty. Odd by taking their cues from the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's and the result is both splendidly odd and fetchingly pretty.
