Comment:

Mr. Wyatt has had an interesting background: coming to "prominence" as vocalist/drummer for the Soft Machine, only to be unceremoniously booted from the band ca. 1970; hobnobbing equally with Communist revolutionaries and Britain's prog-rock elite as a session man while recording his debut, "The End of an Ear"; falling from a fourth-story window in 1974 and ending up a paraplegic who has released some of the most beautiful, unclassifiable, *human* music in the past thirty years. He is one of my all-time favorite vocalists, with a vulnerable, yearning quality that reminds me a bit of Chet Baker or Gram Parsons. Although I love the Soft Machine and enjoy "The End of an Ear" reasonably well, due to time constraints I limited the selection to his output from "Rock Bottom" to the present. Also due to space constraints, nothing from "Ruth is Stranger Than Richard" (one of my favorite album titles and covers of all-time, but one of my least favorite Wyatt-related albums) made the cut, nor, unfortunately, did any of the tunes on "A Short Break". Songs cut from the track listing: "Was a Friend", "Caimanera", "Blues in Bob Minor", "Dondestan", "Team Unity", "Mass Medium", "Costa (Memories of Under-Development)", "Round Midnight", "N.I.O. (New Information Order)", and "Muddy Mouse (c)/Muddy Mouth".

your breadth of taste and range of musical eclecticism never cease to amaze me, Rob. This is a great mix of a criminally underrated artist. I definitely want you to put this to the top of the must have pile for me, please. well done, once again
