Born out of the ashes of an ill-fated film project, Bajofondo is the brainchild of Gustavo Santaolalla, that celebrated soundtrack composer and Latin rock producer. Together with the Paris-based Gotan Project, Bajofondo revolutionized the world of tango by fusing the old fashioned Argentine genre with cool beats and electronica textures. The collective's debut included "Perfume," a seductive electro-tango anthem boasting the vocals of Argentine diva Adriana Varela. The later [i]Mar Dulce[/i] expands Bajofondo's sonic palette by incorporating intriguing collaborations with Sevillian rapper La Mala Rodríguez ("El Andén"), Mexican alternapop star Julieta Venegas ("Pa' Bailar") and even the incomparable voice of Elvis Costello ("Fairly Right").
