A truly Essential movie-musical moment calls for a great song, sure, but it also takes a larger-than-life personality to put it over on that big screen. Someone like Carmen Miranda, the Brazilian bombshell who puts just the right [i]oomph[/i] into the sambalicious novelty tune "Chica Chica Boom Chic." Or an effervescent Doris Day, who joins up with stage star John Raitt (Bonnie's dad) for a joyous movie version of [i]The Pajama Game[/i]'s "There Once Was a Man." Or even Jennifer Hudson, who transformed herself from [i]American Idol[/i] also-ran to Oscar® winner with her bravura performance of "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," from [i]Dreamgirls[/i].
