Back in the early '70s, Calgary trio the Stampeders was one of our biggest rock draws, touring extensively at home and abroad (they even played Who drummer Keith Moon's birthday party in Beverly Hills) and, in 1972, picking up a CBC-TV special, titled [i]A Short Visit to Planet Earth[/i]. The band's mellow signature hit, "Sweet City Woman," topped the Canadian charts and cracked the U.S. Top 10, to be followed by "Devil You" and the harder edged "Wild Eyes."
