Comment:

A few of my favorite classics, and a few new things. Sidenotes: Getz and Baker despised each other during this recording. Wardell Gray was found dead and naked at a too-young age in a vacant lot out near Las Vegas. Charlie Christian's solos with Goodman's band make it clear who started the tree of bop guitar. Bird eventually came to hate Kansas City, his hometown and burial place, so the blues is appropriate. The Cannonball-Coltrane disc shares the same lineup as the legendary "Kind of Blue," without Miles and Bill Evans. Jason Moran is a hot new pianist on Blue Note. Count's track, from the 1970s, is snappy and brassy, as it should be. I love this stuff.

COOOOOLJazz edition Tonio. I've got a little bit of most of these artists (different songs) somewhere in my collection (vinyl & CD). W-PRB, outta' Princeton, plays Jazz mid-mornings during the week...and every time I hear Ella's vocal range...I swoon (whatta' woman !).
Nice side-bar notes too !
