Comment:

When rock 'n' roll exploded in the United States in the early '50s, countless Latinos felt the waves that rose up out of that sexualized fusion of early R&B, jump blues, and soul music. This mix shows some of the major landmark moments in early Latin rock, from the boogie woogie of bandleader Don Tosti to the New Orleans-style rave-ups of Ritchie Valens' "Ooh My Head." Moving on into the '60s brings us garage rock benchmarks from Sam the Sham and ? and the Mysterians while the '70s brings us the funk/rock/soul hybrids of artists such as Santana, War, and Malo. All across the board – from Los Lobos to the Champs – this mix is bubbling up with "brown-eyed soul" classics.
