The Bongos' bag of tricks overflowed with everything from repurposed glam grooves to pop-kitsch imagery, all swirling in a sultry sonic dream brew, and delivering breathless bubblegum hooks and enigmatic rock-noir atmosphere in equal measure. The thunderous riffs of "Barbarella" stir up a stormy celebration of Jane Fonda's '60s sci-fi sexpot character. Speaking of sexy, the Bongofied version of the steamy T. Rex glam-rock cut "Mambo Sun" turns up the heat without breaking a sweat. On the softer side, Richard Barone's breathy romantic coo blows sweet smoke rings above a broken-hearted ocean on "Sweet Blue Cage," from his first solo sojourn.
