After a short-lived stint on the London pub-rock circuit as Kilburn & the High Roads, street poet, rebel, and artist Ian Dury made his claim to greatness backed by the Blockheads with 1977's [i]New Boots and Panties!![/i], featuring the timeless "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll". By delivering a cunning blend of music hall caricature (enhanced by the physical limitations imposed on him by childhood polio), mashed up funk and reggae, and finessed wordplay, Dury added his singular spark to the punk and new wave years, as classics such as "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick" and "Wake Up and Make Love With Me" amply attest.
