I guess I could understand the punk thing, but, the grandpa of Gangsta Rap?

I think I figured it out, this is from another mix:
The title covers from an interview with Ice T, where he stated that Johnny Cash was the original gangsta. Songs like "Cocaine Blues" and "Folsom Prison" were full of the anger and misanthropy that modern rappers (and punkers) love as imagery. Most of these songs are based on the tradational murder ballad and the quest to redeem a tarnished soul, the rest are just hard luck stories or bad ass stories!

Johnny Cash, alright! Him and Elvis just invented modern music, period.

Great picks for a phenomenal artist. I think I'm finally going to get around to do doing my version of this in the next couple of weeks (I've been saying this for the better part of two years). Like you, however, I'm working with limited resources: I only have a couple of multi-disc collections, a few scattered albums, and the two live records...

Yeah, the Ice T quote is what I was referring to. There is no doubt that Johnny Cash was the original musical badass. And the cool thing is that he was born and raised practically down the street from me! Cool, huh!
