Comment:
This one took me for *ever* to do, and could easily have been a two-disc set. The challenge, however, was to make a single disc of my absolute favorite Smiths tracks, suitable for giving to people unfamiliar with the Smiths and for listening to when I can't carry every album. This is not a retrospective, so it doesn't feature a whole lot from the debut album (a great album, but not my favorite) or Meat Is Murder (same). It's also not meant to be a collection of b-sides and obscure stuff (I do have all that, but there's almost nothing worth hearing repeatedly that wasn't released). Whenever I used a cut that is not the "traditional" version (single edits, Peel sessions, etc.) I noted that, otherwise the tracks are all album versions. Please let me know if you think I missed something you absolutely would never make a Smiths mix without. I had to make some seriously difficult cuts to get this down to 80 minutes, so if you'd swap my tracks for others I'd love to know which.Feedback:
i definitley couldn't live without "i know it's over," but i suppose you can only pile so many of those dramatic finale-type tracks on one CD.
Yeah, I had "I Know It's Over" on there, but at that point I think I had over half the tracks on Queen Is Dead, so it got cut. I'm already pissed that I took off "Meat Is Murder."
as long as "jeane" is on there, you're all set (my fave smiths tune).
WOW. I don't know if you'd be willing to trade for this or not, but I would certainly want to. the only thing I'd cut from here is Cemetary Gates and I'd add What Difference Does It Really Make? the rest is golden. :) *claps*
