Comment:

Before there were recordings, families would gather around the parlor piano, toddies in hand, and raise their voices to the season. Of course, some are evocative of an era: The World War II generation had "I'll Be Home For Christmas" and "White Christmas," the swingin' '50s gave us "Santa Baby" and "Baby, It's Cold Outside," while the '60s introduced "My Favorite Things" and "Feliz Navidad." No matter when, though, the message is the same: You can light the fire, lay out the cookies, and hang tinsel on the tree, but until you start the music and share it with someone you love, it's just not Christmas. Together here in one place, like a favorite family portrait, are the biggest, brightest, and most beloved songs of the season.
