Reaching back to the [i]Ziegfeld Follies of 1936[/i], Carter reinvents the Ira Gershwin/Vernon Duke classic "I Can't Get Started" as a late-night elegy, to the point where you can almost [i]see[/i] the rumple in his porkpie hat. If you had any question about Carter's ability to go outside when the mood strikes, "Dewey's Groove" will certainly erase it, with a honk and a screech. And bringing it full circle from Carter's memorable versions of "Lester Leaps In," Saxemble's Frank Lowe composed "In Walked J.C." to showcase Carter's ability to step into the spotlight without needing to hog it — it's up to [i]you[/i] to tear your ears away . . . if you can.
