Before they started a Weepie world together, Steve Tannen and Deb Talan were solo singer-songwriters, each pursuing their own paths to folk-pop glory. Solo Steve’s “San Francisco,” from his pre-Weepies days, is a New York City boy’s West Coast travelogue set to a sensuous, swaying groove. Around the same time, Deb was wrapping her haunting, goose bump-inducing pipes around gently twirling acoustic ballads like “Forgiven.” They finally crossed paths about a year later, and the rest, as they say, is history. But even after the duo found musical and marital bliss together, they obviously hung onto some mournful memories for artistic kindling — how else could they have dreamed up the lonely-hearted hunger of “They’re In Love, Where Am I?”?
