Comment:
Just a lil summer fun serving up a buffett of Jimmy Buffett! A bit differant then my normal darker mixes but hey,its summertime! :)Feedback:
Woo hoo, it's easy and tempting to turn up a nose at this kind of mix, but then I'm reminded of the Buffett box set on yonder rack, and how much people enjoy cranking those discs in the back yard. Not bad at all, although I'd punt "Math Sucks" and "Hokey Pokey" for a couple of covers, "Southern Cross" or "Mexico." Chicks dig those tunes! ;)
Actually Mexico was on this disc but for some reason the file was corrupt and messed up. It was replaced by We are the people... Southern Cross was considered but i didnt want to use any live tracks. I did use 2 of his covers though -Brown eyed girl and She's got you. I also might be doing a part 2 for my wife incorperating the 10 tracks from The Parakeet cd (children singing Buffett tracks) and the other songs my wife likes. Dunno yet
Buffett is still one of my "guilty pleasures". When you mention him so toehr people, they give you a funny look and say "Oh, the guy who did "Margariaville" 25 years ago??". They just don't get it. He's a great songwriter when he feels like it and an even better entrepeneur. I've got 20-something Buffett CD's and still feel that his first major label release from 1973 is still his best "White sport coat and a pink crustacean". Tunes like Why don't we get drunk {& screw], cuban crime of passion, I have found me a home, the peanut butter conspiracy and the great filling station hold up and classic honky tonk meets Key West stories.
Personally, I feel that Barometer Soup is his best 1990's effort.
