Comment:

I just finally got hold of all the Mp3s I had downloaded over the last year. I had moved across the country to LA (and can I say thank god for Amoeba Music), and finally got a friend to burn all my stuff onto disk and send it. And so, I immediately put together some of my favorite stuff. Here's a collection of great singles and rare tracks that I arranged for the best flow possible (somewhat low-key). I especially like Pete Yorn's early version of "Knew Enough to Know Nothing at All," which samples The Velvet Underground's "All Tomorrow's Parties." Tyde's "Lost" had me confused for a long time, because recently I finally learned it is a 60's song, and not to be confused with the Beachwood Sparks side project (and 60's throwback) The Tyde. Most of this stuff, though, are tracks off of albums I just haven't scrapped up the money to buy, or have decided that, on occasion, they are the only tracks I like off an album. As much as I love "Life and Limb" and "Outside the Glass," most of the rest of the material by those bands don't appeal to me much. "Mic City Sons" seems only to be worth it for the handful of Elliott Smith songs, of which "The Fix Is In" is the standout. Although, giving a listen to "The Sebadoh," I'm actually enjoying Jake Loewenstein's songs just as much as Lou Barstow's.

Nice Fugazi and Dandy Warhols picks...but this mix seems to be lacking that special something...oh yes, "birds" by Quasi...

Ha ha, that's right! And while I'm at it, why don't I throw in the 13 minute droning last track of Neutral Milk Hotel's "On Avery Island." Or that single note held for like 20 minutes on the end of The Sunshine Fix's "Age of the Sun." That'll guarantee that no one ever makes it through this playlist alive!
