Comment:

80 minutes by a band who never recorded an outright lousy song. Although I'd been planning to do this comp for the better part of a year, I'd forgotten all about it until Sean asked me to dub their discography for him the other day. I'd also like to toss a nod in poserlad's direction for scooping me on the execution of this idea (with a worthy collection of tracks, as I recall) a couple/few months ago. Last songs cut: "Hunt Again", "Tremelo", "Manic Incarnation", "Outlaw", "New Nails" and "OK/No Way". Is there anyone else who will go on record as saying that Clint Conley is the cooler songwriter in this band?

When I was 16, I went to visit my step-brother who snuck me into the backdoor of a club to see Mission of Burma and some band called U2 was the opening act. Great mix of a worthy band.

A great lost 80s band. I probably haven't listened to them since a few months after I picked up the vinyl of Forget. After reading the "Our band could be your life" book, I had to re-discover them. So Rob, did you find out if they really are back together again? Hard to believe that this is a band that existed during the heyday of Culture Club and hair-metal.

Sean, I believe Mission Of Burma is indeed back together and touring. Tour dates are:

Wednesday July 24 Experience Music Project Seattle, WA

Friday, July 26 The Fillmore San Francisco, CA

Saturday, July 27 El Rey Theatre Los Angeles, CA

They played NYC at Irving Plaza in January and they were great.

look rob, i REALLY LIKE YOUR MIX. really. im not just making up for ignoring you three months ago. i love mission of burma, they are one of my faves. i bought vs. a couple of months ago and it blew me away, the songs are kind of timeless. and after reading "our band could be your life" i decided to check out academy fight song and thats when i reach for my revolver, which i must say are two of my favourite songs; although i dont own signals, calls and marches(yet). have fun golfing next week.

I only know a few tunes on this, but it looks great. After hearing REM's cover of "Academy Fight Song" since then I've always wanted to hear more songs from this fine band. Nice mix

Solid stuff. You're right (though I never considered it) They don't have any sub-par tunes & were amazing musicians too. Can't say much for their solo output, except that Volcano Suns were always a blast live.

Clint Conley is to Roger Miller as Tonya Donelly is to Kristen Hersh.

Well, to the extent that I like Throwing Muses (i.e., not a whole lot), I prefer Tonya to Kristen, as well.

I saw them get the lifetime medal or something at The Boston Music Awards this year and they played "Fame and Fortune" it was perfect.
