Comment:

80 minutes of some of the most earth-shattering sludge ever recorded, stopping short of their (relatively) unwise decision to re-mold themselves into a 60's-styled garage band. These guys were always my favorite "grunge" band back when that word wasn't an antiquated phrase. Kurt Cobain may have written better pop hooks, but he never had the visceral appeal of Mark Arm and Steve Turner's riffing... and Dave Grohl's got nothing on Dan Peters.

Fuck yeah! "Let it slide" is so totally great. Unlike the majority of fans, I actually like the direction the band took with "Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge" and "Piece of Cake". For example, "Suck you Dry" and "No end in sight" are pretty great tunes. So I agree with the spirit, if not the letter, of the mix :-)

By the way, didja ever get that singles (or rarities?) collection? If so, how is it? I guess I like the mid-period stuff because it seems slightly less lunk-heady. The early stuff is great, but it's a bit samey after 2 records.

One more thing - Mark Arm is one of rock's great vocalists.

Hey Sean - are you trying to take up all the room on this page ? (j/k) Also, the "Here Comes Sickness" BBC radio sessions cd kicks serious @$$. You should check that out to - a great version of "editions of you" is on there.

Another one for the pile, methinks Rob. Good stuff once again, my friend.

that's hilarious, I'm listening to this band RIGHT NOW. and the phrase "earth-shattering sludge" is the best definition I can think of as well. Nice postin'. (:

Cool. I honestly don't know much about these guys. I guess I've never been attracted to "earth-shattering sludge," but I guess that's my loss. Could you make room for it in my pile?

My irate letter to an alleged rock crit was when the one at the local republican rag called these guys "third-tier grunge". They fuckin' started it shithead! Though I don't listen to the later records much (for my own reasons, I thought this band should only be listened to on vinyl), I thought the garage direction was a good one. No way should bands like this be recording at a label studio or using more than 8 tracks.

Nice work, Rob. These songs are by far, the best of... I do have to disagree with the drummer thing though....

Another great mix. I would've thrown in "Shoot the Moon". The inclusion of "Twenty Four" makes up for that though.
