Comment:
This is a collection of some of the songs that mattered most to me during one period of my life, from about 1979 to 1983. I wish I could have found room for Tom Waits, Grandmaster Flash, and several others. Believe it or not, the only one here that now gives me a cringe of guilty pleasure is the Soft Cell track; if I were being less historically accurate, I'd substitute David Gray's brilliant cover version of that song. The title comes from the Debris' song, which Billy Cristiano introduced me to at the Annapolis Record Exchange way back in 1980.
Feedback:
i don't remember how Skafish sounded, was that the guy with a big nose, did you bought that Futura 2000 single because of Clash?, i did
Whoa, this looks great. I may want to work a copy of this into our upcoming trade... please e-mail me with additional requests, good sir.
lotsa goodies here. I really like the toots and ub40 pix
Yes, Skafish was the gentleman with the imposing schnozzola. And I was more into rap than the Clash at the time; I don't think I even knew the Clash were involved when I bought that single.
That Skafish song is so incredible...and Rachel Sweet is just too terrific for words hahah...an awesome awesome mix. Bravo!
Many cool songs here!
Fascinating. I think it was toward the end of this period that you made me a Tom Waits mix tape called "Tom Waits for No One" (which I still have).
The A's! It's 1979 all over again! I sure wish their first record would come out on cd. Looks like a terrific mix.
Ha! I was just having a look through your mixes, Mark, and I saw Mo Twang!'s comment below...I made a Tom Waits called "Tom Waits For No Man" a few years back too (great minds...).[A quick search on Google gets 8850 hits for "Time waits for no one", whereas only 2520 for "Time waits for no man" - so I guess you picked the most apt title too :)]
