Sparks
Comment:
Between Russell Mael's androgynous image and altitudinous tenor, and brother Ron's buttoned-down-psycho persona, Sparks weren't exactly conventional sex symbols. They spent plenty of time relating their deliciously twisted views on romance — "Don't Leave Me Alone With Her" expresses terror at being abandoned to the whims of "a Hitler wearing heels." "Eaten By the Monster of Love" raises cries of "don't let it get me" at the very thought of amorous entanglement. Even after reaching middle age, the Mael males looked askance at traditional roles — insisting on being "More Than a Sex Machine" amid the club-happy beats of their 2000 album, Balls.
