Frank Sinatra
Comment:
In our Deep Cuts, we've managed the impossible: to condense Frank's massive career into three bite-sized pieces. Nelson Riddle's bold and brassy horns swing with a ritzy Vegas glitz in "Nice 'N' Easy," and Frank's king-of-the-Strip vocals saturate the song with his incomparable snap-brimmed style. One of the strangest hits Frank ever recorded came from an Academy Award®-winning, post-WWII film short, The House I Live In, and Sinatra unfurls the song's patriotic message of tolerance (written by Abe Meeropol, who also penned Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit") like a colossal American flag. But it's a Brazilian banner fluttering in the breeze when composer Antonio Carlos Jobim teams with Frank on "The Girl from Ipanema," a wispy gauze of surf, sand, and samba . . . the ideal make-out music for the tastefully appointed space-age bachelor pad.
