Comment:

I know Rob did a pair of these awhile back, but I couldn't resist adding my own. More heavily weighted to the first two albums, which I continue to revere.

This is really good, however I notice a lack of tunes from the Classic Album "Electric Bird Digest" which would be a great starting point for anyone who wants to check out the YFF's.

Hey, another Fellows mix is always welcome. Some cool choices, although I personally could do without "Amy Grant" and a couple of the other goofier selections (but hey, that's why people post their own mixes--because their choices are their own). If it makes you feel any better, I was planning on doing OTC and Apples comps until you posted versions of each... I still might do an OTC one someday, who knows.

Btw, I disagree with WidneyKid about "Electric Bird"--it's one of the weakest records, IMO. I'd go with "This One's for the Ladies" or "Topsy-Turvy".

Don't listen to Rob. "Electric Bird Digest" ranks among their best. I find "Topsy Turvy" to be an album that doesn't age so well. And yes, another Fellows mix is not only welcome, but downright essential. Honestly, I don't think there are any truly weak Fellows albums until the decline following "Low Beat Time" (which also has some classics). The temptation is to measure all YFF albums by "This one's for the Ladies", or maybe (by some opinions) "Men who loved music". They all have great merit. The Fellows are the greatest rock and roll band of the 80s and 90s - BAR NONE.

Whatever, Sean... you actually *like* "Hillbilly Drummer Girl", so say no more. ;-)

Guilty as charged. I think it's a great song. The only thing on that album I don't like is "There's a love". Of course, I'm sentimental about that era of the band for a long list of reasons. Now the big question..... Chuck or Kurt? I've said this before but, as much as love Kurt in Fastbacks, I think Chuck's style is better for the band.

geez,I didn't mean to cause any controversy. I would actually recommend the ESD CD of the first two albums as an entry point, but I'm not sure if it's still in print.

Anyway, anyone who is interested in checking out the YFF's is taking a step in the right direction, and most likely will enjoy ANY of their records.

Oh yeah, I agree with Sean. "Hillbilly Drummer Girl" is a great (and really, really fun) song.

No controversy here, WidneyKid... Sean and I debate these (and a million similar) issues all of the time in person. I don't know, I think that Fellows tracks like "Hillbilly" don't rise above their dumbness to be great. That said, I love the Fellows and think that at least 80% of their songs are wonderful. Do I worship them like Sean does (or think that they're the best rock band of the 80's/90's)? No way, although they'd be in my top 10, I'm sure (if not top 5). As discussed on my mixes earlier, I prefer Kurt to Chuck, both in the band and in general.

Once again, the Young Fresh Fellows spark controversy! I love their earlier albums too, and my enthusiasm starts to wane a little right around Electric Bird Digest. I do agree, however, that there are great tracks on EBD as well as Low Beat Time. Great selections, I agree with most of them, and I think the Amy Grant song is hysterical, myself. Great job.
