The All-American Rejects
Comment:
While their closets are overflowing with faded arena rock shirts — from guitar heroes like AC/DC and Def Leppard — the All-American Rejects are basically a chart-clobbering pop band with chiseled cheekbones and riffs that immediately reel you in. Quite effortlessly, we might add, as proven by the group's self-titled 2002 debut — a showcase for the hook-slinging skills of frontman Tyson Ritter and guitarist Nick Wheeler. (The duo did battle with a drum machine on such early standouts as their inescapable single "Swing, Swing.") Now that they're a quartet with widescreen ideas, the Rejects have set their sights on stadiums as well, lacing their sugary melodies and perfectly synced harmonies with a children's choir ("Move Along"), glimpses of gospel and swiftly swiped strings ("Fallin' Apart"), and high-octane chords hell-bent on getting you off the couch and into the sobering rays of a mid-summer afternoon ("Dirty Little Secret").
