Formed 1982 in Charlottetown, PEI, Haywire built up a groundswell of staunch grassroots support in the Maritimes, and won the Labatt's 1985 Battle of the Bands, before impressing mightily with debut full-length album [i]Bad Boys[/i]. National acclaim would follow hard on the back of the band's crowning achievement, 1987's [i]Don't Just Stand There[/i], which showed maturity in both its ballads ("Thinkin' About the Years") and its slicker upbeat tracks — the differences between the videos for "Dance Desire," (sassy ladies, zipping flies) and "Bad Bad Boy" (roller skating, goofing around with hot dogs) reflected that progression. From the albums that followed, we've picked out the muscular momentum of "Short End of a Wishbone" and the propulsive funk-rock of "Get Back" as highlights.
