J.J. Cale
Comment:
An inspiration to the likes of Mark Knopfler, Neil Young, and sometime cohort Eric Clapton, J.J. Cale ranks as one of the coolest — and we're talking a genuine Steve McQueen degree of cool here — guitar heroes of all time. His name is actually John W. Cale — the J.J. was an invention of a Sunset Strip nightclub owner who saw the need for a more distinct point of difference from the Velvet Underground's John Cale. Always shy of the limelight, he spent most of the '80s in seclusion, a policy of obscurity that works out just fine for those who like their cult heroes to remain under the radar . . . although the 2006 documentary To Tulsa and Back: On Tour with J.J. Cale has helped to widen his fanbase. Feel the breeze.
