Comment:

This is actually more of an experiment in mixing than an actual mix. I decided I would try making a collection of mixes using all the artist in my CD collection, all in alphabetical order. It's really interesting trying to make a mix when you don't get to choose in what order the artists appear, though you still get to choose their songs. It also forces me to use artists that I normally gloss over in making mixes. I didn't try to make it a collection of each artist's best song. This is an actual thought-out (and played) mix, although I am making the mixes longer than any CD could possibly fit (this one clocks in at roughly 107 minutes) in order to keep the volume number down to keep from clogging the new mixes board (there will probably end up being six volumes, I'm still at work on Vol. 2). But if you made this your mp3 playlist, I think it'll flow really well, for the most part. I think, though, that a few tracks might be bumpy in the mix, like those from Richard Buckner and The Delgados (I think I should've chosen a track off of "Domestiques"). So, anyway, let me know what you think about the experiment. *************************************************(ARTISTS ADDED TO MY COLLECTION SINCE MAKING THIS MIX: Aden, AM/FM, Ant, Arco, Joseph Arthur, Astrid, The Autumn Leaves, Aveo, Bearsuit, Beat Happening, Bingo Trappers, Black Tambourine, Boycrazy, Brittle Stars, Buddha on the Moon, Burning Brides, The Burning Paris, Califone, Call & Response, The Cato Salsa Experience, Chocolate USA, Circulatory System, Club 8, Coco B's Basement Songs, The Cooper Temple Clause, Cranes, Damon and Naomi, Adam Daniel, Bart Davenport, Ben Davis, The dBs, Dealership, Denali, Destroyer, Eiffel Tower, The Electric Soft Parade, Engine Down, Ester Drang... gee, maybe I'm buying too many CDs.

I just finally got that Clientele album a few days ago after hearing my friend play it like a hundred times a few months ago. I love it. And yeah, I'd rarely have BNL on a mix with most of these artists... And probably not Fiona Apple either, although I do think "When the Pawn..." is a phenomenal album.

Some nice selections Patrick. I'm a bit surprised that you don't have any CDs by the Beatles, Beach Boys, Byrds or Big Star. I hope you'll one day rectify that gap in your collection!

I dig this idea! I might attempt it myself for an upcoming road trip with my girlfriend. You've got some great choices. Personally though, I think you're missing Marshall Crenshaw (1st album), the Cramps, and the Beta Band. Let's see what's on your next volume...

Yeah, I've been meaning to get "The 3 EPs" for a long tim, and I'll looking into those other two artists. Big Star and Beach Boys, too, Ion... I swear, when I dip into the past, those are two of the first I'm going for, although I'm a little reluctant about the Byrds, and as for the Beatles... never heard of them, are they British? Ha ha...

The Beatles? They were the band that Paul McCartney was in before Wings. ;) Don't waist another minute -- go buy Revolver today. The Beta Bands' "3 EPS" is great. The follow up was not so great (even they don't like it) and the current one is quite good. Two other bands that I really like that are missing from your list are Blur and the Buzzcocks (Singles Going Steady is a must-have)

Oh yeah, the Byrds. I honestly didn't really discover them until recently. I was only familiar with their overplayed hits. I think you know the ones. But a friend gave me a copy of "Younger Than Yesterday" last year, and now I know what I was missing.

I meant "waste" not "waist". I swear I'm the stupidist man in the world sometimes.

I just got recommended the Buzzcocks by one of the members of The Minders, I really do need to check them out.
