Comment:

19 different versions of Gloomy Sunday, the Hungarian suicide song written by Rezso Seress (music) and Laszlo Javor (lyrics) in 1933. It was known as the suicide song because it allegedly was the inspiration for many suicides in Hungary. Rezso Seress was an interesting pianist, in that he only played the piano with his right hand and only two fingers at that. He jumped to his death in 1968 from an office building in Budapest.

This song has been recorded in many styles, languages and by many different artists. I have assembled a few versions here if you ever dare to listen.

This looks very interesting, even though I don't think I've ever heard the song...

Wow, great song, great idea. I especially love the Billie Holiday Diamanda Galas, Elvis Costello and Marianne Faithful versions. I've not heard the rest. I'd be interested in a trade for this if you're up to it.

Wow, what a striking idea. (I mean that in a good way.) I've heard the song many times--mainly different versions recorded by Billie Holiday--but I had no idea there were so many versions. Anyway, it's a beautiful song and this is really great.
