Comment:

You don't have to endure a stadium-sized queue to tap into the DM groove, 'cause we've got their ultimate career-spanning fantasy concert right here. It's been a little more than two decades since Depeche Mode stunned the rock world by packing the Rose Bowl with paying fans — no, make that fanatics — and if you don't believe us, director D.A. Pennebaker captured all of that concert's glory on film. But even better, check out the sea of humanity chiming in on that night's performance of "Everything Counts" before erupting in a full minute of drown-out-the-band cheering frenzy. From their first Clarke-less steps in "See You (Live In Hammersmith, October 1982)" through the frayed-nerve electricity of 1993's "Walking in My Shoes (Live)" to the swoony, haunting sigh of 2006's "Precious," we've got more than a quarter-century of Depeche Mode crowd-pleasers and showstoppers. And, no, we didn't forget Martin Gore's solo spotlight, as he shrinks Liverpool's Empire Theatre to confessional-booth intimacy on the stunning "Somebody." This just might be the band's best show you'll never see: all the live hits, all the live history . . . all at your fingertips.
