Outside Projects - The World of Depeche Mode
Comment:
After a quarter-century of recording, touring, and the occasional near-death experience, it's no wonder that, despite their amazing success, Depeche Mode's members still jump at a break from the day gig. Sometimes, in fact, the side project turns into a full-time deal. Case in point: Alan Wilder's Recoil, whose electroclash-y "Faith Healer" features Nitzer Ebb's Douglas McCarthy snarling over a synth slab thick enough to cut with a laser. Onetime Mode member Vince Clarke launched a pair of platinum-level pop duos after turning in his DM ID, pairing with Alison Moyet for Yaz's dance-chart-topping "Situation," and with Andy Bell for Erasure's outrageously contagious groove on "A Little Respect." Ongoing DM'er Martin Gore gets all sinister and swampy covering Nick Cave's "Loverman," and on the other side of the Atlantic, lead singer Dave Gahan hones his songwriting chops with the catlike slink of "Kingdom (Single Version)." From the techno-naughtiness of Andrew Fletcher protégés Client to an artful assortment of musical magic from DM members past and present, we've handpicked all the key tracks and put them right at your fingertips.
