Comment:

"Ohhhh Lard, Lard." Well, there you have it friends, the "Frankie Goes Country" box set. Four volumes of country music before Nashville sold its soul to the DARK SIDE. Maybe a few more obvious choices on this one, but sometimes choices are obvious for a good reason ... they're damn good songs!!! Anyway, I was running out of time and had to get them in. Sorry if I missed your favorite song (I got most of mine!) Only a taste of bluegrass and western swing on the series ... saving them for future compilations! Twang on, pardners and pardnettes!

Really excellent job on this whole series. I may be in the minority because I think a few decent songs still poke through the current country music machine, but these discs you made really put yesterday's songs on the pedestal that befits them. What a great job. Hats off.

Thank you one and all. I'm very pleased at the positive reaction to this series. It's especially humbling coming from those of you whose mixes I've long admired. I don't mean to imply that nothing good comes out of Nashville anymore. It's just that when you listen to some of this older stuff and compare it to the bulk of the overproduced, formulaic dreck that's on the CM charts, well, it's just a sad state of affairs. As far as current "country music," I really love the alt.country, Americana, No Depression, whateveryawannacallit. To me it hearkens back to when the music was free, gritty, powerful, and real. Anyway, I hope this little series has pleased the country music devotees and shown any skeptics that not all country music sucks.
