Comment:
More Bubblegum - some classics, some revisionists, some televison nonsense, and one or two dubious choices. Apologies to Gerry for Bay City Rollers... you know, none of us have ever seen Gerry - perhaps he was IN the Rollers? Heh. I think that the phrase "guilty pleasure" may apply to some of these tunes, but honestly, there are some pretty well-crafted pop gems here. Thanks to Valis for hooking me up with the recent Not Lame tribute. Let the chewing commence!Feedback:
It's baa....sorry, choked on my Lifesaver(tm). Good stuff again, Sweet, Partridge Family (yeah, yeah), etc., etc. "Well-crafted pop gems" indeed, and besides, what pleasure isn't guilty?
Armed with a fistful of BlowPops (also tm).., I applaud from afar! (Glad you could make use of that disc!)Hmmmm, the "Gerry as a Roller" theory might just wear a kilt...Good Mix Sean!
Sean, I'm getting a toothache just looking at this! What do I have to do to get one? I should be able to burn again soon, my computer is hooked up and my CDs are unpacked! =)
This is a pretty great bubble gum series.
Made a few modifications. Dropped one of the 1910 songs and added the Archies and Captain Groovy. Groovy groovy groovy!
Man, this looks like fun. Should cheer up even the manic depressives. However, I do believe Morgan portrayed Easy Reader on the slightly lesser known children's show Eletric Company. But that's just picking a nit. Good job!
Doh! You're totally right. God, I must be getting old.
Solid!
fantastic! i may have to look into getting that not lame tribute.
Man, both these Bubblegum Mixes have given me an Ice Cream headache. Neat-O!! I need to dig out some of my Bubblegum stuff but first I need to become a ghost and haunt the shit out of Sherman
Hemsley.
Hemsley.
LOL. I was most definitely NOT in the BCR. For one, I was too young, and I just don't have the legs for a kilt! The last time legs like mine were seen, they were in a bucket at KFC. This is a great mix, as usual Sean. I'll be wanting this at some point. Especially like Spoonful and The J Richman pix.
The Gerry was a Roller theory sounds plausible. True we have never seen him, and heis a Scot. Perhaps he is the Pete Best of the Rollers. Actually, I will admit "Wouldn't You Like It" by The Bay City's is a underrated little tune but then I also like "Crazy Horses" by The Osmonds. Looks like I have the works for a "guilty pleasure" mix.
A fine set here.
Great work, Sean!... Actually Crazy Horses would have been a fine addition to this mix!
fab fun, i just received volume 1 and match the swedish summer perfect (we got the hottest summer since 1840 maybe the rest of the Europe got all our rain) and i want this too later, what's the name of that Not lame tribute ?
swweeeett, literally, I'm gonna need a copy of this Sean.
Looks great, but i must say that is some bands i've never heard.....Bay city rollers? I've never heard a great song with them...but I've never heard this song with them...maybe this is a great one....maybe we can do a trade in the middle of september:-D, KEEP ON MIXING..I CAN'T...All my cd's are in bags for the moment...i'm gonna move so...
The Not Lame tribute is called "Right to Chews". It is full of tasty treats. I thought about the Osmonds track but I found that it didn't hold up so well for me after all these years. Thought about a Marie Osmond cut, though, but it didn't fit the mood. Let me know your trading needs, folks - I have a clear plate at the moment. And Mike Pike Set, just let me know when you're settled and we'll have another round.
Ooof, I missed the first one, but this looks yummy, yummy, yummy, man. Up for another round of trades in the near future?
This just makes me smile...and of course, 3 is the magic number IS the greatest school house rock song of all time!
Very cool. This mix has given me a cavity.
Looks as good as the first one Sean. Could a boxed set be far behind? It would have to come with a giant stick of bubble gum.
Nice one, Lallo.
fun city.
Oh, by the way, thanks for putting "Sunshine" (my fave-rave classic "bubblegum" song) on this... I'll definitely want a copy.
Yeah, though sadly the quality isn't that hot - it's a not-so-great tape transfer. We'll have to do it again from the vinyl.
love it! monkees, partridge family, schoolhouse rock, electric company...i must say i've never heard of "captain groovy and his bubblegum army," but i'm very intrigued now.
Vol. 2 is the magic number. Nice to see the selection veering left of center. The Rubinoos rool (binoo)...
This is absolutely stellar.
Sorry, it took me 3 years to come up with that response.
