Buddy Guy is the guitar hero's guitar hero, inspiring pretty much every great six-string-slinger of the '60s, from Jimi Hendrix to Eric Clapton. Keith Richards is another of Guy's axe acolytes, and the Rolling Stone honors his idol by leaning his rock 'n' roll riffs deep into the gospel-soul waters of "The Price You Gotta Pay." Screamin' Jay Hawkins' spooky R&B hit "I Put a Spell On You" becomes a Latin-rock 4th of July blowout when Buddy and his disciple Carlos Santana start flinging fretboard fireworks into the air. And Guy's raw, ripping, meat-cleaver riffs on "Stay All Night" will leave your singed-but-satisfied ears little doubt about why guitarists consider him the crucial link between blues and rock.
