Comment:
A much too small tribute to one of the great (3 1/2 octave) voices of 60s and 70s soul and rock music, spanning her whole career from the first sides she cut with early-60s girl group The Gems, the one-off single she recorded as Andrea Davis, her work with multi-ethnic psych/soul band Rotary Connection, and her exceptional solo stuff until her untimely death of cancer in 1979 at the age of 32.
Feedback:
I haven't heard a lot of this, but I really like some of the old Rotary Connection stuff. Their Silent Night is one of my favorite Christmas songs. Really 60s trippy. And of course, Minnie's voice was nothing short of breathtaking.
Have to admit I only know Inside My Love. This one goes on the wanted list...
awesome and extremely cool
Brilliant Thomas. As good as promised. You should have received my order for this by now, let me know when the check clears...but don't hold your breath till it does ;-)
Wow - I think I need to hear this soon. Let's get the trade going on again.
inside my love is awesome...if only baby, this love was on there...that's my favorite! awesome mix
love this mix
My mom used to have the album with Minnie on the cover eating an ice cream cone. That shit blew my mind when I was six (the photo). What is the name of that record?
This looks incredible, Thomas. Please save me a copy!
Easily one of my favorite CDs of the last year. If you know of Minnie Riperton only from the song "Lovin' You," you owe it to yourself to get this mix which shows Ms. Riperton to be more than just an otherworldly voice (are you listenin' Mariah?). Great, great music.
I was just thinking this morning how underrated Minnie was. And then I stumble across this ... thanks!
Wow. I missed this before. Had I seen it, I'd have been begging you for a trade. Since I just got that two-disc set of hers (Petals), however, it probably won't be necessary. That said, this is a great collection.
