Comment:
I made this for a friend of mine who had about 1800 miles in front of her. I knew she would have never heard any of these songs before (or at least the versions on this CD) so I shied away from the to obscure and went for the interestingly digestable. Spiritualized's Ladies and Gentlemen... has a nice opening and the song goes into Sigur Ros pretty well. The ending heartbeat of Svefn-G-Englar melds into the heart-beat-like drumming of Moe Tucker on Heroin. Lil' Fluffy Clouds is such a good 90's drug song I had to put it after the king of smack out songs. From there I went to Radioheads National Anthem cause of the nice bass line opening and the horns that come in later. The song falls apart gloriously at the end. It's a come down and not necessarily a good one. Gravity Rides Everything comes in as a reminder of the weight of the world, personal problems, work problems, drug problems. Everyone and everything has it's own inescapable gravity, and there is no since in Waiting For Superman 'cause the guy in tights ain't coming. So get that cry for help/need with Beth Orton. Too much, too much. Time to retreat to the psychological protection of music. "Let rock 'n' roll deliver me from nowhere"... Wilco's I Am Trying To Break Your Heart has that sound of "song taveling on waves" I thought was appropriate. So does wish You Were Here (still makes me cringe to put that song on a mix). Since I delved into the past I may as well wallow in it and the rock 'n' roll theme with Mark Kozelek's version of AC/DC's Rock 'N' Roll Singer. Then follow that up with Tweedy's Sunken Treasure with the great line "music was my savior/but I was maimed by rock 'n' roll". Then have Elliott step in with a little drunken misery, and have Cat come in with an acoustic, lethargic rendition of the Stone's Satisfaction. A perfect song to stare at oncoming headlights while you tap the end of a lit cigarette out the crack of your window. Finally, the Pixies's Where Is My Mind because what the hell was I thinking when I made this mix?Feedback:
very good stuff. I'd love to listen to this while on the road! :) I especially love the Wilco and Pixes songs.
cool
nice
I snagged a Sigur Ros CD after catching them on a local radio station. This sounds interesting. Why not? Let's!
